CET maintains a full-time Resident Director in Avila who works closely with the staff and faculty of the University of Salamanca. The Resident Director is responsible for administering the academic program, coordinating trips and activities, and assisting students on a daily basis.
Courses are taught in Spanish and English by faculty from the University of Salamanca and other prestigious institutions, such as the Spanish Police Academy. During some terms, faculty from the U.S. residing in Spain or other scholars may teach a course or provide evening lectures.
Resident Director Sonsoles Sánchez-Reyes is a Professor of Modern Languages. She holds a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages from the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain) as well as an M.A. in Law from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Dr. Sonsoles Sánchez-Reyes is a Tenured Professor of English at the Avila Campus of the University of Salamanca, in Spain. She is Dean at the School of Education and Tourism of the University of Salamanca, and Director of International Courses at the Avila Campus of the University of Salamanca. She is also Professor of Foreign Languages and Coordinator for the Spanish National Police Training Center at Avila, for which she was awarded a medal by the Home Office of the Spanish Government. She has directed many programs for professional development of in-service teachers, and coordinated the Erasmus student exchange program of the European Union at the School of Education and Tourism for two years. She is the nation consultant for Spain at the Foundation for International Education. In 2003-2005 she was the Contemporary Spain and History of Castile lecturer for the Alumni Campus Abroad program in Avila for AHI. She has been a member of the Assessing Board for the University of Salamanca Entrance Test since 2002.
From 1993 to 1996 she had a scholarship to conduct research on Jane Austen for the regional Government of Castile and Leon, and also had a scholarship of the province government of Avila to investigate the influence of Avila on the works of Ernest Hemingway. Dr. Sánchez-Reyes has authored more than 40 chapters of books and articles published in journals and specialized magazines, and has also published five books in the field of ELT and one on literary routes. She has presented at over seventy conferences and courses.
