maintains a full-time resident director in Vietnam. The resident director
oversees faculty and curriculum
development, housing and activities, and handles any on-site emergencies.
Language
teachers for the program are faculty of the Vietnamese Language School for Foreigners in Saigon and specialize in teaching Vietnamese to
foreign students. Vietnamese studies courses and independent studies are taught in English by American or
Vietnamese faculty. Faculty hail from various institutions in Ho Chi
Minh City, such as the Hong Bang Private University, HCMC University of
Economics, Vietnam National University at Ho Chi Minh City and the
University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Alyce is a 2007 graduate of Yale University, where she majored in Anthropology and served as the Undergraduate Moderator of the Vietnamese Studies Group. In 2009, she completed an MA at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center in Nanjing, China where she conducted research about Vietnamese migrant workers and brides in Taiwan. She is fluent in Vietnamese and Mandarin (and proficient in Cantonese, French, and Korean!), and brings to her position a wealth of travel and academic experiences.
