Faculty and Staff Overview CET's Beijing Chinese language program is jointly administered by CET and CET's host institution in Beijing (Beijing Institute of Education, or BIE). The academic program is monitored by an Advisory Board comprised of Chinese language instructors from US institutions.
CET maintains full-time staff in Beijing to oversee all aspects of the program. An academic director hires, trains and manages the language faculty, working with them to improve pedagogy and accommodate students' academic needs. A resident director manages the program's logistics, including student housing, activities and roommates. He/she also handles any emergencies that may arise.
Our agreement with the Beijing Institute of Education provides us with full autonomy in selecting instructors. We may chose to hire instructors from BIE, but we may also choose instructors from elseshere throughout the city. As a result, language faculty come to the Beijing Chinese Language program from a variety of institutions around Beijing, such as Capital Normal University, Qinghua University, Beijing University, etc. Many have taught for CET for over a decade and have also been selected to teach at prestigious colleges and universities in the US. Others joined CET's faculty after teaching at other study abroad programs of similar caliber. The majority of our instructors have completed graduate study in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and all of them meet the city of Beijing's standards for teacher accreditation for teaching Chinese as a second language.
