Faculty and Staff Overview CET maintains a team of three staff in Harbin to oversee every aspect of the Harbin program. A full-time academic director manages the academics--training teachers, monitoring classes and adjusting the program's flexible curriculum to accommodate each student. A full-time resident director oversees all non-academic aspects of the program such as housing, roommates and activities. A part-time resident advisor is on site to help students adjust to life in Harbin.
CET's Harbin Academic Director selects language teachers from HIT's pool of experienced faculty. Selected instructors then participate in the Academic Director's teacher training program. All of CET Harbin's language instructors specialize in Chinese language teaching (with the exception of the one-on-one teachers, who specialize in the area of each student's interest) and many have graduate degrees in Chinese or language pedagogy. Some some have taught at institutions in the US.
Ren Shujing, Academic Director Ms. Ren Shujing received her BA in English from Dalian College of Foreign Languages in 1990. In 1996, she started teaching Chinese as a foreign language at the Harbin Institute of Technology. In that context, she taught a variety of classes in listening, spoken Chinese, reading and writing. Ms. Ren began teaching for CET's Harbin program in that same year. During her tenure at CET, she has taught all courses, assisted with the arrangement of one-on-one tutorials, trained teachers of all levels and served as academic liaison for CET's residence staff. She is the editor of Chinese language teaching materials produced for the Singapore College of Art and Literature. Currently serving as Academic Coordinator of CET's Harbin Chinese Language program, Ms. Ren manages and trains faculty, monitors academics and oversees the curriculum.
